On another note, there’s a new Jimi Hendrix record coming out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited (as if you couldn’t tell from the amount of exclamation points). I’m not too sure on how much new material will be on it, but I know that its Jimi Hendrix, so its gonna be good. Plus, it comes out on my birthday! So, all you guys should go to a record store or iTunes or where ever you go get your music on March 9th and get it. hey ladies and gentlemen, im tyler. just a couple things to blog about this week. Im really liking the Jaguar Love album, Hologram Jams. In particular I love the cover of “piece of my heart” originally by Janis Joplin (RIP), which i played on the show today. I really love when bands can pull of odd covers like that. One of my favorite bands recently covered “danger zone” from the top gun soundtrack. I’ve got a collected playlist on my itunes of about 100 covers that i occasionally dip into. Worst cover I’ve ever heard: Avril Lavigne doing John Lennon’s “Imagine” (no that wasn’t a cold breeze, just the feeling of happiness dying). So what are some favorite/most bizarre covers that you cool kats have heard?. Comment and let the music nerds know about it!!!!!!!

so Fan Death is this cool little two-some i discovered here in our own radio room on the electronic shelf. the cd we have is their ep titled ‘a coin for the well.’ it’s composed of five songs, all of which rule for their own particular reasons that i don’t really feel like going into extensive detail about at the moment. i like ‘reunited’ a lot, though. fan death has that nice disco-esque sound that i love, paired with the good ol’ synth–a smashing combo. the female lead singer of this duo (i’m not sure if it’s marta or dandi… do these people not have last names?) has a deep almost pleading, desperate tone to her voice that is oh-so-appealing. it’s kool guys, cerealy, chekk it out. dankedanke.

as those of us on the exec board already know, our wonderful head promotional director allie will shortly be scooting off to greece for the rest of the semester. as i (budgie) am her assistant, i will be taking over the post, and am greatly looking forward to doing so. anyways, it would be helpful if you guys could let me know what concerts YOU want free tickets for. i know i have a few in mind. (!) there are lots of neat bands coming to chicago in the next few months, and i’m going to try and obtain as many tickets as possible. so please, do comment on this or let me know in person what your fancy is; i’de love to accommodate your live musique wishes.

So as 2/3 of the Ginger Power Hour began their show they noticed that there was a very nice Nintendo DS just sitting all alone on the console. Lauren believes this to be the DS of one Matt Kistler. So if it is yours Matt Kistler you now have a Piplup. Congrats. Anyway, In music…I am super pumped that I am going to Sasquatch Music Festival this May! It’s in Washington so it’ll be a nice change of scenery. They’ve got some great bands this year including but not limited too: Tegan and Sara, My Morning Jacket, Dirty Projectors, Passion Pit, Minus the Bear, Garfunkel and Oats, The Tallest Man On Earth, Fruit Bats. So it’ll be three days of mind-blowing, orgasmic indie tunage. You should all be in attendance.

Ok, so I was riding with my friend David today, who might I add, it freakin’ awesome and someone cut him off while he was driving on the highway. He got so mad that he followed this person about 20 miles or so (yeah, I know. He’s insane.) and just drove around waiting for him to stop. This drive continued off the highway from traffic light to traffic light over and over again. The guy FINALLY stopped for gas (by this time I was freaked out and quite the entire ride) and while he was pumping gas, my “awesome” friend David got out of the car and walked up to him really fast. The guy was freaked man I swear! David grabs him by the collar and starts saying, “Now this is a story all about how, my life got flipped, turned upside down. And I’d like to take a minute so just sit right there, and I’ll tell you how I became a prince of a town called Bel-Air.”

hi guys, im tyler. Anyone who’s spent more than a couple hours in my presence knows that i have a tendency to interject the phrase “THAT WOULD BE AN AWESOME BAND NAME!” into especially verbose or eloquently delivered words or sentences. The art of naming a band is truly that, an art, and i think really good band names should be flaunted. I find myself often stumbling upon new bands on the radio’s shelf and thinking “what the hell? who would name their band (blank)?” Some good band names i’ve heard lately: Yukon Blonde (catchy but not annoying), Unicorn Basement (mythical animal reference). anyways I was just wondering what some of our listeners favorite band name(s) are. Post them in the comments PHOOLZ!

what up ya’ll. budgie here. i thought for my first wmxm blog writing experience i would tell you a little bit about some of the albums i have been enjoying these days in the station. as i sit here on the squishy, rolly seat in the radio room, i can’t help but shudder (in only the best of ways) listening to Beach House’s new album ‘Teen Dream.’ Beach House is an indie rock/pop-ish (?)/electronic duo from baltimore. Teen Dream is their third album, much less obscure and listenable than the previous two. favorite song so far: walk in the park, but all are charming and different from the next. fans and soon-to-be fans of Beach House will find a love and appreciation for Teen Dream–give it a spin.

Air recently re-released ‘10,000 Hz Legend’ and the disc is located on the RPM shelf. first of all, air is coming to chi on march 24 @the riviera. i just bought my ticket which ended up costing about $40. anyways it was worth it; air is hardly ever in the states, not to mention the duo is notorious for their live shows. moreover, 10,000 Hz Legend is technically Air’s third album…i’m not quite sure why it’s being re-released. i guess just because it rocks. that’s okay, right? people agree that this album is more electronic as well as accessible to the average listener in comparison to their other albums. i, however, am not so sure. there are some funky songs on hz legend! which ofcourse makes it even better.

oh and pause; i’m currently playing M.I.A’s jam ‘Amazon’ remixed by Diplo. this song rules! damn. upload it on hype.machine.

also, on the RPM shelf is Hudson Mohawke with his album ‘Butter.” Ross Birchard, aka Hudson Mohawke, is a DJ and electronic music producer from Scotland. kindly my older brother purchased Butter for me on vinyl as christmas present. recommended songs: twistclip loop & zOoOOooM, among others.

check out Fabriclive 49 as well. it’s a little hard to find since it’s in a floppy case but just peak around the RPM shelf and you’re bound to bump right into it.
